Trick or Treat! Planning Your Spooky Halloween Party and Drinks

Halloween isn’t a holiday only for children or adults. People of all ages love dressing up as their favorite type of monster or ghoul and surrounding themselves with family and friends for some fun. Creepy music, scary decorations, gross-looking foods and cauldrons filled with drinks are among some of the most common Halloween party plans.

Gross Looking Halloween Foods

Mom always said, “Don’t play with your food!” But that doesn’t necessarily hold true during Halloween. Fun foods deserve some play time before being eaten. We’d like to share some great, fun recipes to help make your Halloween party the greatest ever.

Litter Box Cake

That’s right; a cake that looks like the family cat just finished its business. Kids love it because it looks gross and tastes good. Adults love it because it brings lots of giggles and fun to the party. It’s very simple to make: bake 1 chocolate cake and 1 yellow cake according to the directions on the box. Crumble them into a new litter box and mix them thoroughly. Add rolled and flattened tootsie rolls and serve with a litter scoop.

Ghoul Eyeballs

Yummy, yummy eyeballs! Combine 3 cups all purpose flour with 1 pound ground sausage and 8 ounces of your favorite cheese in a large bowl. For best results, use cheddar cheese or Muenster cheese. Shape the mixture into balls less than 2 inches and place them on a baking sheet. Mash them lightly, not too thin! Press an olive into the center of each sausage ball and bake at 400 degrees until lightly browned. Voila! Gross-looking eyeball snacks!

Halloween Drinks

Brightly colored and shaped ice is a must for all spooky Halloween drinks. Halloween favorites include skull and crossbones ice cubes and fake teeth ice cubes. Pair our litter box cake idea with Sewer Water Surprise for an extra measure of “eww gross!”

Orange You Frightened?

Orange Kool-Aid mixed with your choice of vodka, tequila or rum. Serve with brightly colored skull and cross bone ice cubes and a straw made with red or black licorice. Variety: Use different color combinations of Kool-Aid, ice and straws.

Sewer Water Surprise!

Seven cups of orange juice with pulp mixed with 1.5 liters of Dr. Pepper and 1 bottle of vodka make for a delicious, yet gross looking, Halloween drink idea! Icky colored ice cubes make this drink idea even more fun. Vanilla or plain vodka are best. For the best, gross results, serve this beverage in a clear container.

Lemon-Lime Bath Water

What looks grosser than sewer water punch? Sudsy, dirty bath water or day-old dish water, maybe? Combine 1 can of frozen lemonade concentrate, prepared as directed on the can with 2 liters of chilled Sprite and 1/2 gallon of rainbow sherbet. You must use rainbow sherbet for the correct effect.

Full bath water instructions: Thaw rainbow sherbet for about 20 minutes and stir with a wooden spoon until it turns brown and ugly then re-freeze. Pour lemonade and soda in a punch bowl, add vodka if desired, then scoop small spoonfuls of re-frozen sherbet onto the top to float and melt.

Halloween Party Decorations

No Halloween party would be complete without a few off-the-wall decorations. Try mixing things up with a cheese cutting board in the shape of a mousetrap or ice cubes that resemble false teeth! Halloween is the holiday to have fun and let your creative side show; don’t hold back, have fun with your party decorations.
