Toys for Tots Donation Drive 2015
During the month of October, HomeWetBar.com initiated a way to partner with our customers to give back for the holidays. We wanted to find a fun way to provide Christmas help for needy families. For one week, we committed to donating gifts to Toys for Tots for every purchase over $100 made on our website. Today, we were honored to fulfill this pledge, and the experience was awesome.
Starting bright and early, we were standing outside the doors of our local Toys R Us when the manager opened the doors at 8:00 am. I don’t spend much time in toy stores, and found the number of fun & innovative toys incredible. To help me decide, I thought about my nephews and niece, and what they might like to find under the tree on Christmas morning. After an hour and a half of shopping, and loosing count more times than I can remember, HomeWetBar CEO Keith Winter and I rolled to the front desk with three shopping carts overflowing with Toys for Tots donations.
Since Toys R Us has Toys for Tots drop off locations nationwide, the process was simple. We checked out with our incredibly helpful & friendly cashiers, and then rolled our carts over to the official collection bin. As we left store to return to our office, it was exciting to think about all of the fun Christmas memories that might be inspired by the gifts we helped make possible.
The U.S. Marine’s Toys for Tots program started in 1947, when a group of reservists from Los Angeles coordinated the collection and delivery of thousands of toys for local children. The initial efforts were so popular, the Toys for Tots program was launched the next year as a national campaign. The founder, Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR, used his connections with the Warner Brothers Studio to get celebrity support, and even commissioned the Walt Disney Studios to create their red toy train logo.
The Toys for Tots foundation has grown ever since. According to their reports, the Toys for Tots Program and Foundation collected & dispersed over 469 million toys in 2013. If you would like to donate toys to the Marine Corp Toys for Tots, visit their website to find the nearest toy drop off location in your community.
