I think 2 gallons of anything hot would cool off too fast to be practical. Also, I'd be worried about the glass breaking; a crack (starting at the drilled spigot hole?) could lead to a rapid flood of scalding coffee... I think it'd be best left to cold beverages. That said, my wife really likes hers, and it cost half as much as another store named for a certain type of earthenware and something about shelter for animals.

I probably wouldn't put boiling liquids in it as I am not sure it is tempered the same way a real mason jar is. Also, the spout is plastic. But I see no reason why it couldn't hold warm liquids. FYI, it is not insulated so it won't stay hot for long.

I dont see why not but since it's not insulated I don't think hot stuff too long. we've only used ours for cold stuff.

It's actually plastic. But, when I first used mine, it leaked so I contacted Home Wet bar and they sent me a replacement the very next day. I have'nt had an issue and love this so much I keep it out on the counter on display all year. I think it looks more like an authentic mason jar at half the price of Pottery Barn.
